What to Know About Numerology Compatibility to Find Your Best Match - Well+Good
In addition to providing energy forecasts for the year ahead, numerology, which examines the significance of numbers, can also offer clues as to how compatible you are with other people. Like astrological compatibility, numerology compatibility can go way deep and considers many different aspects of an individual. So for a personalized compatibility analysis, booking a sesh with a numerologist would be your best bet.
But, according to professional numerologist and author Novalee Wilder, there is a super simplified way to calculate your numerology compatibility—all you need is the other person's birthdate. Oh, and the instructions from Wilder below.
How to find your numerology compatibility
One way to calculate your numerology compatibility is by using the digit sum of the day of the month you were born, referred to as your base number. "This number influences your personality, life lessons, gifts, and challenges," Wilder says. "It also influences who you're attracted to in friendships, romantically, or work well with."
Base numbers range from 1–9, so if you were born on one of those days of the month, that is your base number. If you were born on a double-digit date, simply add up both numbers. For instance, those born on the 24th of the month will add 2+4 to get their base number, which is 6.
To understand numerology compatibility, it's helpful to have an overall knowledge of the base number's energies. Wilder describes the odd numbers as dynamic, active, expansive, and outward-directed. On the other hand, the even numbers are static, magnetic, reactive, and more inward-directed, she says.
While generally opposite base numbers naturally gravitate toward one another, Wilder notes that many numerology compatibility combinations will work in all types of relationships, including friendships, romantic relationships, and work relations. "The most rewarding combinations are either based on two people who embody very different qualities, or finding someone who shares and understands the energy that you express, yet does not carry the exact same energies," she says.
Numerology compatibility by your base number
Base 1
This base number is often attracted to other 1s, as well 4s and 7s. In romantic relationships, in particular, Wilder says they are the most compatible life partners with 3, 7, and 9. She adds that 1s can often have difficulty understanding a 6's and 8's approach to romantic relationships, so it may not last even if the attraction is there.
Base 2
For base number 2, they're often attracted to 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9, and make great romantic partners with 4 and 9, in particular. Wilder cautions this base number to be careful not to fall in love too quickly as "they can tend to drown in other people's emotional life."
Base 3
Base number 3 is compatible with almost all the base numbers, including 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9. Wilder says, "3s will work hard at their relationships and make it work with more base numbers than most. Her pro tip? "They should remember to make fun a priority in their connections."
Base 4
This number makes good life partners with 1, 3, 6, 7, and 8, especially. "There is often a deep unspoken understanding between 4s and 8s," Wilder says. "This can lead to really loving relationships, but if one of them is going through challenges, they can start attacking the other instead of asking for the support they need."
Base 5
In romantic relationships, 5s are most compatible with 1, 3, 5, and 9. Wilder's advice for this base number: Take it slow. "They can have a tendency to speed through all the stages of a relationship," she says. "Look for the comfortable silence with another person."
Base 6
Base number 6 is most compatible with 1, 3, and 9 as life partners. "They are here to love and be loved," Wilder says. "They will attract a lot of close and meaningful relationships and connections, but need to be aware of establishing and keeping clear boundaries so their significant other does not have to worry about the nature of these connections."
Base 7
Folks with a base number 7 are most compatible with 1, 3, 6, and 9 numbers, and often find themselves attracted to 4s as well. This particular pairing works because Wilder says, "4s and 7s are both radical in their thinking but in very different ways. They need to honor the other's need for freedom. The more grounded their partner is, the more the 7 feels free to soar, daydream, and create."
Base 8
If you're a base number 8, you'll likely find you're most compatible with 1, 3, 5, and 6 base numbers. In general, "8s are attracted to the lightness and quickness of others, yet have trouble inviting people all the way inside," Wilder says. "They often standstill at one point in life for a long time before making a change. Honoring an 8's internal journey is important for both parties."
Base 9
When it comes to life partners, 9s vibe best with people with base numbers 1, 2, 3, and 6. Whatever the numerology compatibility, Wilder advises this number to work on their triggers because "9s tend to suddenly make enemies of very close or amicable relationships when something in their worldview gets triggered," she explains. "They should focus on finding common ground and keeping the lines of communication open."
