In conversation with Women's Health, astrologer Laura Lau revealed which signs are compatible.

In Chinese astrology, signs that get along well together are grouped into "triangles of affinity", three signs that "naturally bring out the best" in each other.

According to the astrologer, Rat (1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020), Dragon (1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024) and Monkey (1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016, 2028) are all super compatible with one another.

All three signs are wise, the expert claimed, as well as being hard workers, but as highly r social beings they are also able to have fun with their loved ones.

Unfortunately, these three signs share the same negative characteristics - the tendency to be manipulative and selfish.

According to the astrologer, Ox (1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021), Snake (1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, 2025) and Rooster (1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017, 2029) make a great trio.

This is because all three signs are cautious and responsible, never straying too far away from what they know.

Ox, Snake and Rooster also all have the negative attributes of being self-centred and demanding.

Laura observed that Tiger (1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022), Horse (1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014, 2026) and Dog (1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018, 2030) are compatible signs.

These three signs are extremely well-liked because they have the ability to connect with others and bring out the best in person.

However, other signs should avoid doing them wrong because they are quick to anger.

According to the astrologer, Rabbit (1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011, 2023), Goat/Sheep (1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015, 2027) and Pig (1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019, 2031) are three very compatible signs who work well together.

The expert described them as empathetic, and they are a great bunch when it comes to listening to each other.

Additionally, they have great work ethic and will help each other strive towards their goals.

However, the trio can be pretty moody, so it's best to avoid them on their bad days.

Chinese compatible signs: Who am I compatible with?

To calculate who you are compatible with, start counting from your own sign as number one and you'll notice that you are most compatible with the fifth signs either counted clockwise or anti-clockwise from your sign. If your Chinese zodiac sign is Ox for example, you are most compatible with Rooster and Ox.

Do Dragons and Tigers get along?

The Tiger sign has what it takes to get on well with Dragon, Horse and Pig and could even go on to get married and live happily ever after with anyone of these animal signs.

    Incompatible Chinese zodiac signs:

To work out whom your Chinese zodiac sign is incompatible with, start counting from your sign as number one and the fourth signs either clockwise or anti-clockwise are the signs you are incompatible with. For example, if your Chinese zodiac sign is Rat, you are incompatible with Rabbit and Rooster.

What Your Chinese Zodiac Sign Says About You

As much as we adore tropical astrology (the system that's typically followed in the West), Chinese astrology can tell you just as much, if not more, about yourself. This astrological system is based on the lunar calendar, so its signs are determined by the year, as opposed to the months. The moon repeats its cycle every 12 years, so there are 12 signs (just like in tropical astrology). You might be familiar with some of them — the Dragon, the Monkey, the Dog — but, in celebration of the year of the Rooster, which begins today, we thought we'd take a closer look at the signs that make up the Chinese Zodiac.

Bear in mind that the Lunar New Year, on which the Chinese Zodiac is based, doesn't have a fixed date, like the New Year in the Gregorian calendar (January 1st). It can happen as early as mid-January or as late as the end of February. And yes, this will affect which sign you identify with.

For example, if you were born in 1993, your sign would be the Rooster — unless you were born before January 22, the lunar new year that year. In that case, you'd be a Monkey, as most 1992 babies are, since the lunar year technically hadn't changed yet. (Not sure where you land? Here's a handy Chinese Zodiac sign calculator.) With that in mind, we've rounded up the 12 signs of the Chinese Zodiac, their defining characteristics, and the past years they've each ruled. For more in depth info on your sign, we recommend Theodora Lau's book, Children of the Moon, and astrologer George Tang's work (our descriptions are based on their writing).
